Friday with the White Rose

On Friday of Teen Service Week, Level II'ers and some of the adult leaders headed out to the White Rose Catholic Worker Farm in Monee, Illinois. John, Regina, Jen, Charlie, and baby Clarence are living out on the land for the summer and cultivating their acreage with delicious organic edibles. They raise chickens, utilize rain barrels and composting toilets, and offer their homegrown food at farmers markets for a free will donation.

John led us on a tour of the farm and talked about the native plants growing around, the method of using high tunnels, and how God calls us to be stewards of the land. We shared a meal together with freshly foraged salad and goodies from the ground. We planted seedlings, hauled water and wood, weeded, and took a turn or two in the hammocks.
